What a wonderful time I had at LeadDev StaffPlus! Speakers, workshops, guided discussions, meeting countless other people, handing out question cards… all so good!
Here I am on stage:

Many thanks to the organizers and staff for putting together a fantastic event.
Us vs. Them Talk & Slides
I was fortunate to speak on the StaffPlus stage! I spoke about my experiences with “Us vs. Them” thinking.
The most common question I got after the talk was: “So, what happened next?!” Oops! I didn’t mean for it to be a cliffhanger!
As I was preparing my “recap” slides below, I realized that the talk stopped at the moment where I had learned the takeaway lesson. But there’s more! I added an epilogue and some other Q&A below.
Book
As I mentioned during the talk, I’m writing a book on the “human” side of being a developer. To keep posted, see some draft content, and have opportunities to send me feedback, sign up for my mailing list here:
Connecting & Cards
If you were there and we connected (or if you wanted to connect and didn’t get a chance!), find me on LinkedIn and say hello.
When you reach out, tell me about one of the other talks or events you liked best from the conference.
I was also handing out cards and stickers…

If you drew a card, feel free to drop me a note on LinkedIn (“everyone’s favorite social network!”) to share your thoughts!
I put the card questions online here.

Goodbye LeadDev + StaffPlus, hello LDX3
This was the last StaffPlus event, but only because LeadDev in the US is planning to transform next year to be the “LDX3” experience that has been hosted in Europe in the past.

On one hand, a separate event for StaffPlus folks was nice, to let us connect with our peers. But on the other hand, I really wanted to sneak over to the LeadDev main stage this year to hear a few of their talks.
Ultimately, the LDX3 experience makes sense to me as the way forward.
Of course, this means it’s going to be even harder next year to decide what talks to attend!
See you next time, LeadDev!
